We went to this lake that is known for big pike. But things didn't go as planned. We didnt't have a strike the whole day. Water level rose due to heavy rains, and pike were totally inactive. Even jacks in shallows showed no interest in little lures we presented them. We took a break and thought about the day. On such hard days there is often a little window of pike activity and it often happens in dusk time. I said to my self - I know my tandem Caviar/LB grub rig will catch pike, it's just waiting one of those biggies start to feed. With an hour daylight left I started running around the lake and slowly rolled Caviar/LB Grub rig on each good looking spot just once, than running to the next spot. It wasn't long my efforts paid with this biggie completely engulfing No 4 Caviar spinner combined with 10 cm LB grub in tequila sunrise rigged on a 4/0 offset hook.
As usually with the big ones, there was no strike, it just stopped. I knew it was a good fish and set the hook hard. In just a few minutes my friend also hooked a big one, so day was saved literally in 5 minutes. Talking about small window of activity...
cheers Dalien
