Megabass Ito Vision for big asp

Another after-work short-time fishing on river Sava, and one big asp caught on Megabass Ito Vision 95 lure. Great lure for all kinds of fish! My new Prologic "Boner" rod paired with Okuma Raw reel seems to be great combination for this type of fishing. Asp, zander, barbel and chub are target fish on river Sava, and all of them can be handled very well with this gear. Casting of lures like Megabass Ito Vision is easy, and lure is flying far enough what can be important fact in asp fishing. Not only Ito is great lure for asp. My choice beside Ito are Rapala Original RT 11 cm, Prologic Savagear Prey 89, Yozuri Pins 9 cm, Yozuri Aile Magnet and some other...

I'm sorry that focus is missed on this photo. It was my mistake to leave manual focus option on lens attached to my Canon 40D, so I gave it to my fishing colleague to take photo of me and asp, but in a hurry to release fish as soon as possible, I didn't notice that lens is not focusing well . Never mind, fish is released back to river Sava, and is swimming together with another asp. Some of them are really big, up to 5-6 kg and 80 cm long. Sava downstream Zagreb is one of the hottest fishing spots in Croatia, and who knows how good it can bee with better conservation program... like real fishing Eldorado.

Good barbel on stationary Prey 69

Text Dalien, photo No Name

The barbel predatory pattern is getting better every day as the minnow spawn approaches. They are strong swimmers in the fastest currents. The presentation of just holding prey 69 in place in the middle of the stream proved to be the most efficient. Prey 69 does excellent job of running true even in the wildest current. When fishing this way strikes are brutal and often trebles get bent on the strike or initial run of fish. Not the case with mean owner hooks. Prey 69 - great tool for this specific presentation!

... I will add that some other vobler patterns are great for this specific presentation ... just to name some: Rapala tail dancer 5 cm - 7 cm or countdown 5cm - 7 cm, or some of Ujka and Ružno Pače models are proven barbel hunters.

2 hours of fishing

Yesterday after work I spent two hours fishing on river Sava. I had one barbel and one asp, both gave great fight in strong current. Next time I will take fly rod with me, and try to fool some barbel the fly. We'll see. For sure if it take fly, it will be extreme fishing in this current, and I will need to have all the luck to get it out of the water.

The story of three catfish

(Dalien story) Today water was rising due to heavy rain yesterday and today. Rising stained water is no1 signal for heavy feeding action of catfish. Anyway, there is one place and pattern I discovered. Fishing on the drop in a slack water between main and back current  with the stand up jig head and a grub. Cast it out, wait to sink and be prepared for a strike, reel back and cast out again. The catfish strike exclusively on the drop, and today I discovered they like the SG LB grub very much since I had three catfish on the end of my line in three consecutive casts.

The first came on my light tackle and it was gone before the fight even began.
I went back to car to get my heavier gear, and took SG Boner,30 LB Power pro braid and okuma 40 raw. On the next cast I had a  strike on the drop. I got the fish fairly close to the bank quick, but then a brutal 80 metar run with no stop followed as if it realized it was hooked just then. Boner leveled with the water and smooth sound of okuma raw drag still echo in my memory. The gear was put to the maximum stress and  fish showed no signs of tiring out I think the gear held pretty well, Im especially pleased with the okuma raw drag. My line broke due to heavy curent and lot of line in the water.

I sat for a while and regained my composure. On the next cast-baaam..another one struck on the drop! This one just swam in the middle of the water column...nor he wanted to go away, nor I could drag him closer..it came un buttoned after two or three minutes...what a power. I ve caught catfish up to 20 kilos, but this was something else...I think they are stacked up due to the spawn....

Brutal day that proved SG LB 10 cm Grub in lemon fluo as the serious catfish bait, and Okuma Raw as reel that can match even the biggest freshwater gamefish...

Graylings and browns of Gacka river

Short story and photo: Ante Jukić
Although the river Gacka is worldwide famous thanks to the beautiful nature and capital brown trouts, recently in Gacka grayling are swiming, and what kind of grayling! Due to the abundance of natural food grayling in Gacka grow incredibly fast. Last season's average size was 40-45 cm with few specimens longer than 45cm. In anticipation of more favorable weather conditions, we are reminded of some of last year's catch. Will Gacka grant us grayling 50 + this year ...?
+++
Iako je rijeka Gacka svjetsku slavu stekla zahvaljujući prekrasnoj prirodi i kapitalnim potočarama odnedavno u Gacki plivaju i lipljani, i to kakvi lipljani!

Savski boleni u proljeće +++ Aspius Aspius from river Sava

Text and photo: Goran Pišćak - NoName

Prvo ga treba naći, onda još pogoditi varalicu i prezentaciju iste, a ponekad i boju.
