Adapt to the situation

The same place on the river at different levels of water, requires a different approach when fishing with lures.

One day your shallow diving lure will perfectly stay and work in the water, causing the fish to attack. But the other day, after hard rain if water level is higher for 30 cm, you need different approach and lure to fish with. This situation requires medium or deep diving version, that will go deeper and will not be thrown out at the surface by the river, but will stay in the rapids and produce right lure action. DUO Realis Shad 59 is great bass lure, but will give you a lot of pleasure when fishing in the river rapids, like I’m using it for big barbel. Realis Shad 59 is produced in 2 versions SR (shallow) and MR (medium), and there is DR (deep) diving version that is 3 mm longer, so it has name Realis Shad 62 DR. With the different sizes and types of lure beak these lures will give you ability to lead them through different depths of water. Also, they are suspending and will give you chance to keep them in the place for a while, waiting for the fish bite.  At each potential place at the river you can try all 3 lures to see which one fits the best for this situation. Mostly, these lures will cover a wide range of situations you are facing every day in bass or other type of fishing, and they will react to the rod work you are doing. Recommended ways of giving the action to these lures are twitching with pauses, slow and fast retrieving, and keeping them in the one place at the river using the river speed to make them live.

Kayak bass fishing

Last Sunday I spent a nice day fishing at Crkveni Bok lake near Sisak town. While I was fishing from kayak, Dalien and our host Alija were fishing from the boat. The day was sunny and the most of fish I saw in the shallows and in the weed. They were feeding on the edge of grass not missing the chance for good food eating mostly small fish and frogs. The best approach was to fish with unweighted silicone lures mounted on worm hook (mostly I used Sakura Slit Shad 7,5 cm), even I had nice fishing on top water lures like Duo Realis Popper 64. The most of bass were aggressive and they attacked lures that I ran quite aggressively and fast for bass fishing. Mainly fish were smaller size, up to 35 cm, and rarely we have some around 40, but the quantity of caught bass was quite impressive. At the end I have to say thank to our hospitable host Alija, who was guiding us on the lake and prevent hunger and thirst in the tired anglers. Thanks a lot, and I'll be back with my kayak! Just to mention that this weekend Croatian Bass League will be held on this lake.

Lokvarsko lake

Lokvarsko lake is artificial lake placed in Gorski Kotar region in Croatia. Lake is up to 40m deep and size of about 2.5 km2, and is nice place to visit and take a kayak or boat fishing tour, like we did. Our guide Daniel showed us the best positions on the lake, and we spent time fishing the perch and trout. Trout is quite rare in this lake, so we were lucky when Daniel caught small one with Awaruna silicone lure on trolling technique. Later at the evening we heard about one bigger caught at the lake, also with Awaruna 2" silicone lure, (color 206). Lucky fisherman is Zdenko Vidakovic, who was fishing for carp at the lake with his friends, and occasionally they knew to trow their spinning lures in the bay where their camp was located. Congratulations on a great catch!

Fishing rules at the lake are managed by SRK Lokvarka, and you can buy a daily license on a few locations near the lake. Beside trout, perch and carp, lake has good population of big pike and chub. Ready for the new catfish season?

Gacka season update

This part of the season at trout rivers in Croatia was marked by unstable weather and the fact that fish are cautious and suspicious of the offered flies - most like because they have probably been caught several times since the beginning of the season. (In the meantime weather become stable and hot like in the summer)

Frequent changes in air temperature, rains, variations in the water level of the river and presence of many anglers, affect the mood and behavior of trout. In this part of the year trout activity should move to the surface, but cold days (like this Saturday two weeks ago) and temperatures of 13 degrees nailed the fish to the bottom.

My plan to fish with small nymphs and dry flies quickly fell through. Although I had a few fish, and one big rainbow trout, my total catch of the day was much worse than my friends Sasa and Ivica, who were using "heavy weapons" strategies and were persistent in fishing with streamers near the bottom. Of course a sinking fly line was instrumental to their success, especially for Sasa who had some really beautiful trout.

 

The most successful moment of the day in outsmarting with this big rainbow trout occurred when after changing all possible nymph imitations, I took a red imitation of a bloodworm from my fly box. This "fly" is a little unusual for trout, but this year it gave me some nice fish, probably because other anglers rarely use blood worm imitations.

Oresje Pike Masters 10.05.2014.

Jezero Orešje je u posljednje dvije godine doživjelo transformaciju u jednu od ponajboljih destinacija za ribolov štuke u Zagrebu i okolici. Povratak starog sjaja ove vode pokrenut je uvođenjem uhvati i pusti režima za ribolov štuke početkom 2013. Prosjek uhvaćenih riba već u jesenskoj sezoni je bio 70-85 cm. Kako bi u najboljem svjetlu predstavili ovo jezero, organizirat će se Team spin kup iz čamaca. Ribolovci će moći uživati u istraživanju mnogobrojnih oreških otočića, udaljenih sprudova i podvodnih platoa lopoča koji su odlično staniše štuke na jezeru. Obzirom na komforan ribički dom na samoj obali jezera, napraviti će se presedan u organizaciji ribolovnih turnira u Hrvatskoj i od proglašenja napraviti spektakl uz vaganje ulova natjecatelja u sklopu samog proglašenja. Organizator će prenijeti svu uhvaćenu ribu u toku natjecanja neozlijeđenu u čuvaricama pred dom i vaganje ćemo obaviti pred svima uz „vruću stolicu“ na kojoj će sjediti ekipa sa trenutno najtežim ulovom! Ne propustite ovo zanimljivo natjecanje, a prijatelje pozivamo da u što većem broju prisustvuju vaganju koje će početi oko 17:00h.

DUO lures have started a series of videos under the title “There Is Only One”, with which they want to introduce what actually goes on "behind the scenes", before the lures hit the shelves in stores. Interesting scenes from the production cycles that show a commitment to the highest quality standards.

Gacka brown trout

It is well known that brown trout in river Gacka grow up to five times faster than in other rivers. Quantity of brown trout increases each year and this year in average you can catch more brown than rainbow trout. Credit for the preservation of native Gacka river brown trout goes to "Croatian Centre for Indigenous Species of Fish and Crawfish in Karstic Waters - Otocac" and Gacka d.o.o.. This year more than 2000 fish, mostly native brown trout average size of 45 cm, were introduced in Catch & Release area which has been extended to the fifth bridge. Larger, old, nature brown trout you can catch specially in this downstream area which is not much visited by anglers like area in Licko Lesce around bridge and hotel. In our last fishing trip my friend Sasa and I had dozen of trout, mostly brown some of you can see on this photos, but the most beautiful brown trout larger than 60 cm caught by Sasa I didn't have opportunity to photograph. Sasa showed me a photo of fish taken by his mobile phone. This was pure, old and native brown trout, really beautiful and trophy fish what you can not see every day. That day we were fishing mainly near the bottom of the river with black streamers and heavy nymphs, and that conditions are created for using of sinking fly lines or sinking poly-leaders.

Heavy vibrations

It is already well known that Duo Lures Vibration models respond very well in river rapids and fast water. New, improved Vibration G-Fix models are even better in these conditions. Drastic increasing in weight and new shape in head area allow lure to easily sink through the river current, reaching the places were the fish are located, near the bottom. Both lures (Vibration and G-Fix) are very effective at our European rivers, and catch well many types of fish like asp, barbel, chub and catfish. They are recommended for fast researching of the river rapids. For me, there are no better lures for such conditions when you want to cast far away, be fast in searching, go deep and to have nice lure vibration in fast water. And just one hint for the end. Nearly all fish we caught were hooked in the lower/belly treble hook, so check the sharpness and condition of the same.

Carp fishing competition - lake Oresje

Lake Oresje placed between Zagreb and  Samobor, are one of the best lakes for carp fishing in Croatia. From 11th to the 13th of April, 5th traditional carp fishing competition "Pavao Karabelj" with complete number of  17 teams will be held at the lake. Lake has a good population of carp, some are very big, so outside of this weekend you can plan your own carp fishing campaign here. Except carp, lake has plenty of pike, so take you lure box and spin rod if you are coming here. Daily license you can buy in the fishing house at the lake.
