An report from Vitunjčica river was one of the first posts here on the blog. My good friend Miroslav Vodopija presented this remarkable river with some nice photos of big trout.
http://fishingincroatia.blogspot.com/2010/02/vitunjcica-home-of-big-trout.html Years after we had a nice trout fishing there, but the last few years we've somehow neglected this river, even Vitunjčica is a great choice for the beginning of the season, and has never disappointed us.
And so it was today. Robi and I have some really nice fish, all rainbow except one brown trout. Best flies for this cold part of the season are always some heavy or goldkopf nymphs. There are short period of surface feeding in the middle of the day, when they will take dry fly. 4 kilometer long river Vitunjčica is hiding some capital trout, so do not be surprised with the trout in the range of 60 - 80 cm. I remember meeting with a large brown trout from which I came out as a loser. On the same place later 94cm long brown trout has been caught! All trout were healthy in excellent condition, so we can warmly recommend this fly fishing destination. And respect Catch & Release regime!
