Seaspin top water action - Pro-Q120

Fish attack at the surface is the scene that raises adrenaline. Seaspin model Pro-Q 120 is a great crankbait for catching various fish species, but pike especially like to attack it. Attacks are powerful, though often miss the lure in the first attempt, in another they successfully strike it. It is easy to use, you can retentive it or twitch it with the pauses. You can even let it go below the surface when you stop retrieving, and than it can act almost like a jerk bait. The best way is retrieve it slow at the surface with the big curves, and than make something unpredictable, like pause, twitch, or to accelerate it slightly. Use the top of the rod to make this wonderful lure live, and success is guaranteed.

Springtime on the river Sava

Spring has arrived! While the fish is still not feeding intensively, in the warmest part of the day it is possible to achieve catch of few species like sneep, asp or chub. Is not easy to get them on the fly now, but that's the charm of fly fishing. With every warm day fishing will be better, and I can not wait to see first chub feeding on the surface of the river.

Opening the season in the sign of cormorants

I do not understand why the cormorant birds are protected species in Croatia? It is not autochthonous species, and the number of cormorants that destroys fish of our rivers, lakes and the sea is increasing each year. They have no natural enemies, and every year, causing terrible damage to fish stocks. After years of destroying fish stocks in Međimurje channel, this year the damage is done to Gacka river. Precisely because of the damage done by cormorants killing innocent Gacka trout, this year the season is not open to the best manner. Caught and seen very few fish and I hope in next few weeks when it warms up, much more fish will be seen. But the problem of the cormorant birds will stay, and our lakes, especially rivers will be sadly empty without fish, if the law will ignore this issue.

Lophius piscatorius (frog-fish or sea-devil) and squids

Over the past decade, my dear friend Zeljko Vedernjak became one of the most respected marine anglers in Croatia (and not only marine ;)). Specializing in fishing for Dentex, during winter time he spends a lot of time in the squid fishery. This is a time for big squids like this 2 beauties held by Zeljko and his frend Ivan. This weekend Zeljko had an unusual catch. Frog-fish is pretty rare fish in a coastal areas, and this one 4 kg heavy fish is real trophy caught from the coast. Frog-fish took dead bait fish mounted on the jig head. What a great catch!

Dead season in February

I can not wait
March and the fly fishing season beginning! What we can catch in February? Not much! It's complete dead fly fishing season. Spinning? Pike fishing is prohibited, because they are spawning. The lakes are covered with thick ice, and temperatures are extremely low these days, even at -20 degrees. The most heroic fishermen can go to some of our rivers and try to catch pike perch. Dress nice and warmly and go to the river Sava, Drava or Danube to fish this beautiful fish.
And take a lot of silicone fish lures and jig heads. Here are 3 photos of my friend Igor and his nice fish, and two of mine. All fish were released back. Igor's biggest in this period is 82 cm, almost 5 kg. But remember that Sava is hiding much bigger pike perch, and Dunav is well known for his capital trophy fish. Check this one ;) http://fishingincroatia.blogspot.com/2011/02/28213.html
