180 mm ideal size for pike

SEASPIN is an Italian producer of high quality lures designed for fishing at the sea. Coixedda 100mm, a lure with specific head

A week ago I received a package with several copies of Seaspin lures (thanks to Stafano Pisu) and the first thing I noticed was Mommotti model that is produced in sizes 140, 180 and 190 mm, which makes it ideal for pike fishing. Also action and colors even made for sea are ideal for slow twitching / jerking pike fishing style. In just few hours of fishing in last few days I had 4 meetings with pike, and today I had one really nice fish on 180 mm ARB model. Since this is a pike time here, choosing big Mommotti lure was the right decision. Mommotti lures are slowly sinking, ideal for casting away even in strong winds, and in the water they are doing a small deflection from the axis of movement. Mommotti is in the fact jerk-bait that works great when twitching and slow retrieving with the breaks.

The other lure that made impression on me is 100 mm long Coixedda. Looks like ideal lure for seabass, pike perch and pike too. This lure with specific head is also slow sinking, long cast model that make more action in water than Mommotti. I think they will be great for Asp fishing at river Sava here.

I have the honor to present to you an excellent material from the Croatian Savage Gear duo team Igor Pavičić and Daniel Vignjevic - Dalien. Guys are exclusively fished from a boat on the famous Zagreb's Lake Ontario in Blato and caught some beautiful pike. This is the best proof that the big pike are still there, just a little farther from shore. Samouvjereni večernji izvještaj vremenskog prognostičara s nagovještajem sutrašnjeg pojačanog sjeverca u sjeverozapadnoj Hrvatskoj, oplemenjenog snijegom, gotovo da je spriječio ovaj dugo očekivani ribolov, ovu nama još neznanu, nenadanu zimsku idilu.

Subotnje dopodne ne izgleda niti slično sinoćnjoj prognostičkoj najavi. 10 je sati. Svejedno se međusobno na pokret nagovaramo mobitelima! Lako je Dalienu koji je doma. Zabok je malo dalje ali i on će biti za čas na jezeru. Ja još nisam niti pribor za varaličarenje spakirao u auto, kamoli čamac. A baš je čamac i ribolov iz njega bit ovog dogovorenog susreta na Ontariu. Samo je danas dozvoljeno loviti iz njega za sve članove „Piškora“ i nas iz V.S.P. Studija. Cilj je utvrditi „ima li još uvijek štuke u jezeru“, da li je pokradena, "nestala"…, a ako je ima gdje je, pošto od ljeta ne prima, i ako ih ulovimo zabilježiti druženje i varaličarenje kamerom za potrebe mog budućeg filma. Stalno mi najavljeni sjeverac puše unutar glave! Vozim se nevoljko po Marina još uvijek praznog auta. Uvjerljivo i sugestivno mobitelom mu usput objašnjavam da će biti super, da je mnogobrojna ekipa već na putu prema vodi, da nema smisla da se mi ne pojavimo koji moramo sve za budućnost ovjekovječiti. Uspijevam ga uvjeriti u ono u što niti sam gotovo ne vjerujem! Čeka me pred zgradom, ulazi u auto s priborom. Dakle na putu smo! Mir kratko traje! Kod mene moramo po čamac. Na spomen čamca Marin kao da doživljava strujni udar! Stani, ja ne idem nikud! Uz beznadnost ribolova još i gombanje s čamcem. Vozi me doma! Otvara vrata! Hoće van…i tako, dio koji slijedi ne traje kratko. Vrlo malo fali da ova priča ne bude ispričana!

Nešto prije 14 sati isplovljava moćna flota varaličara na mirnu površinu Ontaria. Dalien i Oktalz u jednom gumenjaku, Marin i ja u drugom. Sjeverca, a kamoli snijega niotkuda! Niotkuda niti najavljenih brojnih štukolovaca. Prava šteta! Nema niti Zaboka koji je rekao da nas čeka na jezeru! Voda je malo porasla. Znatno se zamutila. Sunce probija rijetke oblake. Varalice paraju vodu dok nam struja lagano nosi čamce s jedne obale prema udaljenoj, drugoj. Od obale uz koju paralelno plovimo udaljeni smo stotinjak metara. Bacamo u domet koji bi postigli s obale i dalje gdje bi nam s nje bilo nedosežno. Prekrasno zimsko popodne blješti površinom. Medvednica je prekrivena snijegom. Mijenjam nekoliko tipova varalica. Marin također pokušava s različitima od mojih. Nisam zadovoljan s favoritima koje sam odabrao. Računao sam da velikih pod površinskih travnatih površina neće biti, da su ih mrazevi i hladnoća u potpunosti uništili. Nažalost nisu! Trava se nije raspala. Slojevi su pritisnuti uz samo dno! Povremeno se sidrimo, odbacamo, prepuštamo struji! Toplo je!

Evo je! Viče Dalien! Iznenađenje ne utječe na brzinu snimateljske reakcije! Kamera! Akcija! Drill je već pri kraju! Brz i učinkovit kao i svi Dalienovi! Prebrz za mene, za snimanje, ako ćemo iskreno! Prekrasna štuka! Vika! Odobravanje! Čestitanje! Imate metar? Nemamo! Imate vagu? Nemamo! Brzina, al nebitno! Fotkanje! Puštanje! Savege Gear 4play liplure prezentiran povuci-stani tehnikom. Kapi u kojima se preljeva crvenilo kasnopopodnevnog zimskog suca. Da'Bush Spinner je dobro zabijen u tvrdi dio spoja čeljusti. Hvatam je pod škržni poklopac i vadim van vode. U siguran prostor nad dnom čamca. Odobravanje sa svih strana! Prekrasna velika štuka! Uhranjena, debela! Velike glave, širokih leđa. Blizo je 15 h. Dvije! Nije slučajnost! Foto session i puštanje! Idemo dalje. Razmišljao sam i dobro odabrao varalicu. Prezentacija u mutnoj vodi, uz dno, lagano povlačenje varalice jake vibracije, uočljivih obrisa i boje Yellow Silver Holo Flame. Vrijeme nezaustavljivo odmiče prema noći. Dalien i Oktalz približavaju su obali i ulaze u zaljev. To sam i ja planirao ali šta je tu je, brži su, razmišljamo vrlo slično. Odlučujemo ostati na istoj poziciji. Dalien viče! Tek su ušli u priobalje. Kamera, zoom! Manja štuja! Diže je, pokazuje, smije se zadovoljno i odmah je pušta! Treća! Cilj je ispunjen. Nisu „nestale“! Svi napadi gotovo jedan za drugim!

Konačno opet uzimam štap i ponovo zabacujem Da'Busha daleko prema obali u istom pravcu gdje su dečki bili maloprije usidreni. Povlačim ga mutnom vodom, lagano, pri samom dnu. Silina vibracije varalice trese vrh Bonera lagano povinutog pod njenim otporom i težinom! Vrh štapa se ispravlja! Ne osjećam varalicu! Špaga se otpušta! Napad! Silovito kontriram! U tvrdo! Vrh ponovo kraće prema naprijed! Sad naglo i silovito! Gore je! Jaka je! Uporno vuče prema dnu, dalje od čamca. Udarci mahanja glavom u pokušaju oslobađanja neželjenog uljeza iz usta prenose se štapom. Rola otpuštajući zuji. Nekoliko bjegova od čamca. Pljuskovi moćnog repa razbijaju površinski purpur zalazećeg sunca. Dobar drill! Privlačim je i hvatam pod široki škržni poklopac! Veća je i teža od prve! Prava mama! Mišićavog moćnog tijela prekrivenog mnoštvom predivnih bijelih pjega. Ljepote snijega koji je zaboravio padati! Drečavo žuta krilca spinnera klate se pored duge donje čeljusti. Žuto-srebrna suknjica ispreplela se među oštre, duge zube. Tri popodnevna sata preteklo je petnaestak minuta. Sve se odvija munjevito! Vrijeme nam ništa ne bi značilo da prosinačka noć ne dolazi neumoljivo brzo! Dovikujemo se iz nedaleko sidrenih čamaca! Čestitarimo! Smijemo! Uživamo, zaista uživamo u ovim zadnjim trenucima odlazećeg idliličnog dana na kakvog uopće nismo računali! Marin odlaže kameru i prihvaća se fotkanja! Treba je mirno držati ovako tešku, nemirnu, dugačku, punog trbuha! Odlazi bučno iz mojih ruku tamo gdje pripada! Nadam se još kojem viđenju i nadmudrivanju lijepa štuko!

U ovom kratkom ribolovu postigli smo i više nego smo očekivali. Uz nezaboravan doživljaj dokazali da uz našu metropolu, Ontariom, plivaju najbrojnije i najveće jezerske štuke u Hrvatskoj. Čestitke članovima, ribočuvarima i upravnom odboru ŠRD Piškor na uzoritom gospodarenju vodom. Održivom gospodarenju zbog propisanog „ulovi i pusti“ pristupa ribolovu. Pristupa koji će nam i ubuduće donositi bogate i sve veće ulove zubatih ljepotica.

What is happening with pike at Ontario lake? If someone knows the answer please tell me. Information from lake are that it is really hard to have at least one bite per day. Maybe this cold weather will force them to start to feed. Till this I can only look at my photo archive to check how decent pike looks like ;)

Cuttlefish and squid from the Adriatic!

The season of Cephalopods fishing has just begun at the Adriatic. Even this is not a "real" fishing technique, squid fishing with lures is really popular here. We like to do it from kayak, what gives you indescribable feeling, but you can catch squid from regular boat or from the coast. All you need is a certain type of squid lures, spinning rod, line and reel. With same type of lures you can catch cuttlefish too. Both are delicious!

"EEEEEE what to say ..... Phenomenal nature, good people, great food ... Lake has 500 acres, you can easy to get lost! There are many branches in the water, water depths is between 1 and 2 meters. Pike are fished from a boat on the spoon and Monarch jerk voblers (Original model, Piker, and Hecht Killer). Pike like to attack on the water surface, and almost every bite can be seen. Each gives you a phenomenal pike drill. Largest were 100 and 103 cm and averaged about 80 cm. Work best when it is raining or the wind blows and the weakest in the sun."

This is a great Asp season at the river Sava. It is unbelievable experience watching a school of asp feeding at the surface of the river. Sometimes it is enough to throw your streamer or lure at this area and they will took it, but sometimes they successfully avoid all type of lures and that's the charm of this game. We need to protect asp even it is not regulated by law, please handle carefully with fish and release em back to the river.

First Impressions of Duo lures!

This is a long and hot summer in Croatia, without or with less rain that average, so water level of rivers and lakes are extremely low. Fish are less active than normally, and have short time frame of feeding. Some species like asp are especially careful in this conditions, and successfully avoid bigger lures. This is why I love small size and shape of Grace Minnow Elena 70F and Ryuki 50S lures.

First few hours of fishing with DUO lures I was at river Sava near Zagreb, where water is faster and occasionally we are catching asp, barbel, chub, and perch on wide range of artificial lures and flies. Ryuki 50S is ideal lure for faster water, although I prefer floating, this sinking lure is great for fast searching of the river rapids. First catch was a little asp, that was hunting a little pray near the bank and couldn't resist Ryuki. Beside this one I lost one much bigger asp, probably because of the size of the hooks, or just because he missed the lure. Later, I found that Ryuki has one wonderful characteristic. Ability to fish in decay while sinking, in a pause with a little twitching. Two times a barbel attacked it, but they didn't hooked like a few perch that grabbed it before. Chub is another species that likes this little, nervous lure, and I had a few. Generally Ryuki 50S will be adored by those who practice ultra light fishing techniques, and will bring them many trout among other game fish. In my opinion it will be great for our sea bass too, and for some other sea species. The main characteristics are: heavy weight sinking lure, capable to reach long distance with nice nervous, sharp action and reflection fish can't resist.

Second day I went for bass fishing on some local ponds near Karlovac town. Again, desperately low level of water, and hot weather. Fish were lethargic, and less active than last time when we were fishing with crank baits there. This time my plan was to try Grace Minnow Elena 70F and catch some bass. But it was not easy, at the begging. I was crying for DUO crank lures, that didn't arrived now, so I had to use some other crank lures, and a few smaller bass were caught in few hours of fishing. Few hours later I had few bites on Elena, smaller fish and nothing special happened till the end of the day. Elena has been thrown in one small bay, with pull and pause, then twitch and ... bite! Decent bass around 40 cm long was up, and after short fight outside of the water, ready to be photographed under low light conditions. Few shoots, and ready to go back to the lake. At the end Elena gave me a fish of the day, and confirmed my trust that this lure is a great for bass,with his size, shape, colors and twitching abilities.

Next time I was fishing with Ryuki 50S lure at the river Sava for just few hours at the evening. Now with more confidence to this lure and I knew what I have to do. I expected some bigger asp, so I decided to replace last hook with a bigger one. This was good decision, because 7 fish were caught with much better percentage of realization than before. Chub were crazy about Ryuki, and I had 2 asp, the second one at the evening was really nice fish long around 70 cm. The main point is that I didn't retrieve Ryuki a lot, I used speed and power of river with twitching to add life to this great lure, that gave me a dozen of fish in just 2 short fishing at river Sava. Remember this is a "hot and hard to catch fish" period of late summer...

Box of chocolates arrived at my address yesterday. Well, not the real box of the chocolates, but this sweet lures are like a real candy to me. Japanese lure manufacturing company DUO produces wide range of plastic lures, for different fishing techniques and fish species. Mostly for salt water species like sea bass, but they are great for many fresh water species like asp, chub, perch or trout. A little giant, Salmo Boxer 4 cm

I'll remember this day at this little crank bait, Salmo Boxer 4 cm. After two hours of unsuccessful chasing inactive bass in one pond with all range of silicone lures, this crank bait reverse bad day into a great fishing experience. In next two hours I had dozen bites, and few decent fish, like this one at the photo. Just to say that this lure is great for chub too. And this small pike like it too ;) Off course all fish are released back.

Ontario, June 2011, happy angler- Miško, 104 cm long beast! Probably the biggest pike caught at Ontario lake till now. Just to remember what is laying on the bottom of this lake, even summer is not the best period for pike fishing there. Autumn and early winter will bring us a lot of fun, for sure ;)

One of the best Croatian spin fishermen, member of the national spin fishing team - Željko Kuk, made an interesting presentation of ultralight spin fishing technique. Water level of river Sava was a little bit high but this couldn't stop him to catch few decent barbel and chub. Thin line, ultra sensitive rod, small jigs and a lot of action, this is ultralight spin fishing!

What is a fishing day like?

Each morning we leave Zadar port at 9. The fishing starts following a 1 1/2 hour sail and continues late into the evening. If you wish, we may make a lunch break and/or a swimming break at a beach that can only be reached by boat. Open sea fishing can be difficult due to large waves or strong wind, but this is all part of the adventure that you will be sharing with the crew. Depending on the season, several fishing techniques can be used in a day and you may partake in as few or as many as you like. Good suggestions, perhaps born of experience, are always welcome. All fishing equipment is provided but if you prefer to use your own gear, which must be adequate, you may do so, with prior agreement with the skipper.

What are the fish and the fishing like?

The fishing season on the waters around Zadar lasts from the beginning of April until the end of December. At the start of the season we troll the open sea for little tuna, use flapper paternoster rigs from the anchored ship as well as the very popular vertical jigging over reefs. These techniques successfully catch amberjack, dentex, grouper, John Dory, forkbeard and several species of blue fish like mackerel, horse mackerel and bonito.

June 15^th is the beginning of the big game fishing season, when we go after large predators in the deep seas. The blue fin tuna is the main target, together with the swordfish and several species of sharks. Big game fishing is very successful throughout its season, which ends on October15^th, with August and September being the best time for giant tuna, when specimens over 200kg are caught. We fish for tuna, swordfish and sharks using drifting and trolling techniques.

From October until the end of the year the dentex and the amerjack are the main targets. During this time night squid fishing can also be arranged. Three-day trips to the open sea of island Jabuka can be organized between April 1st and July 1st.

About the ship

The Megabite is an Albin 31 fishing boat, with 3.85m hull width and 10.5m length. It is equipped for any fishing technique, with outriggers, a radar, an ultrasound depth/fish finder, a GPS device and a VHS station. Powered by two Yanmar 315kW engines, the ship also has four beds, a deck lounge, a kitchen, a TV and a radio.

Just to add, Igor Zdenjak skipper of the ship is one of the best amateur chefs in Croatia, and he can cook some of his cooking specialties for you at the boat.

Kayak fishing is more than regular fishing from the boat. It's like a way of life, enjoying the whole story about it. Ocean kayak will give you all you need, mobility and easy paddling vessel that are made even to start the fight with big game fish like tuna. We are really enjoying in each day we spent in kayak no matter do we caught some big fish. The main story from this day is not related to any special fish, but to the lost of one rod that failed from the kayak to the lake. Not happy end, cause we couldn't find it in 20 m depth. This is why you always need to tie rod with a kayak. Speaking about fish, we had 3 pike bites but no catch, and I had many small chub on dry fly. It looks like they have never seen dry fly in their life, so they swallow it on the surface so unadvisedly. That was great, because they are known as a careful fish, not always easy to be caught.

Our friend from Slovenia, Žiga Tomšić had many capital fish in his life, and he sent me photos of this beautiful Marble trout (Salmo marmoratus) for this blog. Thank you Žiga for this :)

This remarkable trout has been caught 16th of June on river Idrijica. Žiga used Loop Opti Stream 490 #4 rod for this fish. Small nymph has been tied at the end of 0,12 Stroft tippet line. I'm really impressed by the beauty of this fish, and I would like to have one as soon as possible at the end of my fly line, or at least to take some photo of Marble trout. Since Žiga is willing to lead me to this river, I'm thinking to afford myself one trip this year...

Check this guys !!! A friend of mine had a strike on a weedless rigged discontinued 13 cm LB jerk minnow, and the line broke on the hook set. Bummer! He tied another one, made a cast to the same spot and had another strike. This time everything was fine and a 2 kilo pike was brought to the shore. Well, just then it all got to be funny. He noticed his own broken off leader hanging from the pike mouth, and the previous lb jerk minnow was not to be seen. It was completely in the pike`s gut. As it turned out pike ate it after the line broke, and even decided she wants another one... Crazy! In his words the same sort of incident happened last year too...Do I need to mention LB jerk minnow is his favorite lure.... just to add pike is released back to lake :) (Daniel Vignjevic Dalien)

This pic is a story of how one bite can change fortune and log a tough day on the water as a great memory! After whole day of pike trolling, working hard and constantly adapting we had no success, and were totally resigned. In the last hour of the day, we decided to give up on pike, and try to land one of elusive lake trout present in this beautiful lake. I reset my rods and replaced heavy pike rigs with Okuma hyper vision monofilament leader and smaller spoons. First pass over 8 met ridge in 13 met water - baam! The queen of Lokvarsko lake was on!

Well, what to say! I'm always glad to meet new fishing friends, and this one is a real fly fishing star. Stephan Dombaj Junior is famous passionate fly fishing promoter, great caster, founder of Fly Fishing Nation, guiding agent, journalist and photographer... (it is not easy to describe him in one sentence ;)). Star, but simple, warm and nice person, easy to communicate with, like some old buddy. I was honored to be his host yesterday at Ontario lake, focused to catch some carp or pike on fly. Unfortunately, carp were not at the same positions like few days ago, and we couldn't see them in some large schools. But in the shallows, Stephan had one bite and he missed fat carp that was digging the ground in front of him. We went fishing on a little river known for it`s aggressive perch. When started fishing perch didn`t bite at all, as if they were not there at all.
Our 10-12 cm lures that were usually productive didn`t produce any bites, so we gradually downsized our lures until we came to almost ultra light lures and just then started catching fish.
As it turned out, perch were in pre-spawn, and were quite selective about what will they eat. One of my top catching lures was 3-4 cm piece of a 10 cm LB worm grub in Xmas pattern rigged on a no. 6 jig hook with a 1-2 gr weight.
At first I tried the rear part that had a swirl tail, but that was too much action, so I went for the front part that had no action whatsoever.
It was just a piece of worm that I was drifting along the bottom. That appealed to perch as some kind of food being brought to them by the current, and it was enough for them to eat it! The dark pattern silhouette was quite visible in muddy water, and the softness of the plastic made them hold on to the lure. It turned out to be a great and fun day with 20-30 of these fish caught. We did catch a few bigger ones that had enormous bellies...
The ability to adapt is the most important virtue of an angler. When things don`t go as planned don`t be afraid to try something different and you will be successful. There are always fish to be caught!

Happy angler Dino Lazarevic had one big mama today! One meter long pike took Idra metal weedless spoon "Miš", what is proven lure for pike, specially in heavy weeded condition. We are so happy to have this Ontario Catch & Release so close to our town. Each day some pike monster like this one is caught and released back. By the way today I saw a lot of pike 1 - 2 meters close to the bank. I was fly fishing and had 4 bites on streamer but I succeeded to catch only one. But the most interested is the time of this action. The most unproductive part of day, from 12:00 to 15:00! Imagine how good early morning and late evening is. It seems this is relay good time for you to come here, and have some pike fishing fun. You may have luck like Dino had to catch your personal best monster! Tight lines!

Based on many messages and requests, IFC Mediteran staff decided to organize its first IFC PREDATOR Cup. The cup will kick off last week of May 2011, just before the fishing season starts on Lake Vrana. The competition will last 3 days - from May 27th to May 29th 2011. A new fly fishing season on river Gacka is opened from 1st of March, but today an special fishing event has been organized by Gacka d.o.o. Event has started with rich breakfast at motel Majsić and finished with great lunch at Hotel Park in Otočac. In the meantime fishermen were fighting with many angry rainbow. We had really nice rainbow fishing, and due to my opinion new season couldn't start better. Thank you Gacka d.o.o. for this beautiful day and event, and I hope that fly fishermen from whole world will enjoy in this tremendous and exceptional river like they did in the past...

It's the end od February, last minute to catch some big pre-spawn pike perch, like this one from river Danube :) Pike perch will be protected from fishing in next spawning period, but from the begging of March you can start enjoying fishing rainbow. Whatever you like, you can do them with fly rod or with spinning rod on the waters where spinning fishing technique is allowed. I hope this cold winter time is counting last minutes, and the sunny days are coming with higher temperature. And then another species will be attractive - bass :) Enjoy in each time of fishing season ...

Both items bought on ebay arrived in last two days. It's a lovely shopping, just search on eBay, buy what you want and wait for these little sweet lures to come to your door. Both great jerk-baits designed for longer casts with attractive action. Fish can't resist them. Ito is more expensive than DB Minnow, but can be your joker in some situations. I already had similar color, and it was great for asp fishing on river Sava. Also it is a great lure for bass fishing with twitching technique. Spring time is near, so they will wait a while in my box for first spring asp and bass.

Last weekend at Ontario before spawn period

Today we went on short fishing at Ontario, to take advantage of last pike fishing weekend before spawn period. Later at the afternoon pike were more active than in the morning. I'm pretty sure that I had my bites because I was using really light jig head on my silicone lure, and I was spooling it slowly. This was a trigger for lazy fat pike :) We all (4 of us) had some pike, so we can close this early pre-spawn pike fishing period with smile on the face. From 1st of February till the end of March pike fishing is forbidden in Croatia. Pike are spawning in this period, and we want to see a lot of juvenile pike in our rivers and lakes later this summer. Happy spawning pike :)

This is a new record fish from Kupa river. The biggest huchen caught and released on this beautiful river. Vinko you are lucky man and I want to congratulate you for this record and for releasing it back to the river. River Kupa is every year better and we are so lucky to have it here together with our friends from Slovenia. Thanks Gregor for this news and for the photo. Nice greetings from Tadej arrived today with this photos of new catch from river Sava. Huchen long 107 cm has been caught and released back to river. I just can say "bravo Tadej", and that I wanna have this size of huchen one day :) It's a pity for the bad photo quality...

Two freaks in the night

Sometimes I wonder is it quite normal for a person to walk muddy, slippery sometimes frozen banks of river during cold fall/winter nights. There is not a soul around, and all you can encounter is a fox, rat or hear a creepy squeak of heron. Luckily, zander also move tight to banks every evening stalking little bait fish hidden in rocks and brushes. Is there a better imitation for these tiny fish than Cannibal shad in 8 cm size rigged on a light jig head. My friend makes these awesome weed guards that allow me pitches into bushes and retrieves over rocks. Water was rising and I pitched my Cannibal deep into half submerged shore brushes. I pulled the lure loose of last branch and let it flutter down to bottom right on the outer edge of the bushes...well it never got down there because this zander got it half way to bottom. It was right were it was meant to be... freak just like me...

Tropical fishing for Tilapia Chichlid fish in Slovenia

One species of Tilapia Cichlid fish can be found in one lake near Brežice town in Slovenia. Lake has thermal source of warm water, and temperature is always over 20 degrees even in winter time. Somebody put some Tilapia inside and now they are spawning and dominating in the lake... Nice for fishing with fly rod, even with dry file, or with light spinning techniques. You can fish also on match technique. They will took many types of food. Really beautiful exotic fish that is beloved among Cichlid aquarium enthusiasts (like me - I have Malawi Cichlids in my aquarium). I don't know if you can fish them anywhere in Europe except here! So if you want some exotic fishing adventure come to Brežice, and you will enjoy like we did... Just to add that all fish we caught are released back to water.

It was a white and cold St.Stephen's Day but Dinko was warmed up with 4 beautiful pike. One hour of intensive pike feeding on Ontario lake was enough to warm our fishing souls. Miro had 2 pike also, and Dalien and me just for one missed bite each. Not bad if we know that half of the lake is still under the ice, and fishing was not possible at all till today :)

Forza Fiume!

This weekend I was fishing with the owner of Polish fishing brand Fiume, my new fishing friend Rafal. Odra river was unpredictable again and we had only few bites, 2 small zander and one not even small pike... but anyway I'm happy after weekend. I saw really nice part of Odra river, and learn a lot from Rafal who is one of the best fishermen in Poland. His life is all about fishing. Great competitor in match fishing technique, and very good in spinning fishing too, organizer of fishing competitions in Poland, producer of fishing rods and accessories and owner of Fiume company, fishing journalist and one of main actors in the fishing show on television TRWAM. Now you can imagine how impressed I am after these two days. Especially when he showed me a storehouse of his company and all these fishing rods and stuff he is producing... some are really great like his Guardian spin fishing series, and all rods gives you great values for your money. I hope he will spread distribution outside of Poland as soon as possible and I wish him all luck, and thanks for guiding me to Odra river. :)
I'm sure that fishermen from our town Rijeka will like the name of this brand if it comes to Croatia one day! :)

And here is Hunter wobbler produced by one good friend of Rafal, made specially for asp fishing... really nice and unique lure, I will try it for asp on my river Sava. One of the most popular silicone lure brand in Poland is Relax... really great stuff for pike perch, pike and other predatory fish.

Yesterday was a day to remember! Tadey had one 91 cm long pike, and his father 92 cm long huchen. Real queen and king of river Sava near Radovljica town... Big sulec and ščuka, like they call it in Slovenia... Worth while catch... So congratulations to both happy fishermen!

Huchen fishing season started

Thanks to Tadej I know how does huchen looks this season. For me it is not possible to go for huchen fishing yet, but I'm glad that Tadej and his father are active again. This time they are catching with barbless jig hooks, so fish have more chance, but victory is much sweeter now. Even they have lost few fish, they are successful like always. See you Tadej, and have a big one!

VI Bass Fishing World Championship in Portugal, Alqueva

Full respect and congratulations for Croatian team, not only for being there, but for tremendous result achieved. Probably the best Croatian fisherman Josip Pecigoš and his colleague from the boat Siniša Pavlinić are individually 2nd at the World with great score.

Perch and pike fishing in the abyss of Kruscica lake

And this fall again, I joined the guys from Predator fishing team in fishing on the accumulation Kruscica, one of the deepest lake in Croatia. This fascinating lake is situated in Lika region, on the same name river, and abounds in pike, catfish, carp and perch. On this fishing adventure target fish was a perch, and we can say that in Kruscica you can find the biggest perch in Croatia. Although we caught perch this fishing expedicion was marked by big fat pikes that attacked a small soft lures intended to perch.
